What makes me different

My unusually broad clinical, educational, developmental, and behavioral training allows me to understand the many factors contributing to your child's challenges.  I do not just focus on what is visible, the behavior and the struggles. I find and connect the dots to discover the reasons behind them, and from there to identify concrete, actionable steps needed to improve the situation. These steps can include adding accommodations, using specific instructional methodologies, teaching additional skills, changing how school professionals respond to your child, and helping the team to understand your child better.

 

I will use everything we know about your child to formulate an action plan. I will also often identify unanswered questions that have been missed, things that we need to clarify, to more fully understand your child's profile, to further fine tune their educational and therapeutic programming.

My clinical training helps me build relationships with school teams. I have the skills to navigate even the most emotionally charged meetings and to maintain a focused, productive approach, so that we have the highest chances of accomplishing the goals we set for the meeting.

 

My style is collaborative, transparent, and pragmatic. I am committed to giving you all the information you need to make good decisions. I am exceptionally detailed-oriented and always prepared for meetings, so that you can count on me to have your back.

IEP expertise

With over 15 years of special education advocacy and consultation experience under my belt, I can figure out what your child needs and I know how to ask the school for it. I know how to make sense of evaluations, what options the school has available, and what they are mandated to do. I have special education law training as an advocate, and know procedural steps and options that can best help in your situation. 

 

Most importantly, I know how to put all of this into an IEP that will truly support your child and ensure that they will be learning meaningful academic and social skills. I will make sure that you can monitor your child's progress and, if needed, their program can be adjusted quickly without wasting valuable time waiting for a year for that next annual review meeting.

Examples of issues that I have successfully assisted parents with:

 

• Child had an evaluation but was found ineligible for an initial IEP or a 504 plan

• School is decreasing IEP services

• School is saying that the child is doing great, but parents have serious concerns over academics and see child unable to complete schoolwork at home

• School is saying the child is doing great and wants to take the child off an IEP, parents disagree

• Child has been getting services for years, but parents do not see progress

• Child is refusing to do any work in school and often has behavioral outbursts

• An IEP meeting is coming up and parents are not sure what to ask for

• Parents believe that their child might be placed in a wrong classroom or in a wrong school
